Impact Player Rule IPL 2023

IPL 2023 is just few months aways and excitement is already building up with just concluded IPL Mini Auction, where Sam Curran became most expensive player in the history of IPL ever when Punjab Kings bought him for INR 18.50 crore.

To add more excitement to this already exciting sport,IPL is introducing 'Impact Player' Rule for the first time in IPL history. All these years in IPL ,team had to announce playing 11 for the match and those 11 player were allowed to bat and bowl.

But now with 'Impact Player' Rule dynamic of the game will be changed completely. In many sporst like Football, Rugby and Baseball we have the tactical substitution during the match, similarly we will have 'Impact Player' Rule for IPL 2023.

What is 'Impact Player' rules and how it will be implemented.

According to the 'Impact Player' rules,in addition to the playing 11 teams  have to submit list of 4 Substitute player during toss. They can use anyone player from the list of these ' 4 Substitution ' which they had submitted as the Impact Player and that Impact player can replace a player anytime during their innings even at the last ball of the inning.

A Captain can bring his Impact Player before the start of an innings or at the end of an over or even if a player gets injured and he retires or when wicket falls.

Bowling team can bring in Impact player at the fall of wicket or at middle of the over, but if they use impact player at middle of over,in such case  they will not be allowed to ball remaining balls of the over.

If a bowling team bring in a bowler as impact player then he can bowl all 4 overs of his quota irrespective of the number of overs bowled by the player he is replacing. For example if a player A bowls 2 overs and he went for plenty runs, then captain can replace him with ' Impact Player' and that player can still bowl all 4 overs of his quota.

According to the rules,if a team plays with 4 overseas players in their playing 11 ,then they can bring in only Indian player as Impact Player, which means they should name  4 Indian players in list of substitution player. If teams announce only 3 players in Playing 11 ,then team are allowed to use a foreign player as 'Impact Player' only if  he is  included in the list of Substitute player at the toss.

It is not mandatory to use 'Impact Player' rules,if they feel necessary then they can use that player or not depending on the situation of the match.

The replaced player will not take further part in the game ,even as substitute fielder.

Implementation of Impact player rule will not change even in the case of ' rain curtailed match '  or 'delayed match 'before the start of the match.

Home and Away Match
