What is Timed Out in Cricket ? | Angelo Mathews Timed Out Against Bangladesh in World Cup 2023

In bizarre incident ,Sri Lankan All rounder Angelo Mathews had to walk out the dugout after Bangladeshi Captain  Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpire for timed out during ICC World Cup Match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Thus Angelo Mathews became the first ever batter to be TIMED OUT in International Cricket which has a 146 years long history.

What is Timed Out in Cricket?

"After fall of a wicket or the retirement of batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to ready to receive the next ball within 3 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed Out.

Angelo Mathews walked into bat after the Bangladeshi Captain dismissed Sadeera Samarawickrama. 35 year old veteran allrounder Angelo Mathews took his time to enter the filed and then delayed his start after apparent helmet mix up, as he bought some other helmet. Due to this bizarre dismissal Angelo Mathews became the first ever batter to be Timed Out in International Cricket.
