Mumbai Indians did find new players which be crucial moving forward in form of Tilak Verma,Dewald Brevis and Tim David. They even bought Jofra Archer last year even though they knew he won't be available for that season ,but chance are he will be ready for IPL 2023. Mumbai Indian went all out for Australian Allrounder Cameron Green for Whopping INR 17.5 Cr in IPL Auction 2023, few smart buys during the auction shaped the squad prety well.
IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians Strength and Weakness
Ahead of IPL 2023 which is just few weeks aways from now on,Today we will discuss about the Strength and Weakness of Mumbai Indian squad for IPL 2023 and will get to know how the squad shaped up for upcoming mega event.
Strength: Explosive Batting and Bowling Unit
Mumbai Indians Batting already consist of Captain Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and World No 1 T20i Batter in the form of Surya Kumar Yadav, this make them one of the best batting unit in IPL 2023. Surya Kumar Yadav has been in Red Hot form in T20i in last 1-2 years and his form will be crucial for MI in IPL 2023. Along with Young Stars such as Tilak Verma, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs and Tim David will make MI Batting more forbidden. MI need to fill the void created by Kieron Pollard after his retirement from IPL,for that reason they had bought in Cameron Green, but it is need to be seen how Mumbai Indian uses Cameron Green. If MI can find right role for Cameron Green in the middle order, then the prospect of him and Tim David finishing the game of MI will be just mouth watering. On paper MI batting unit has covered most of the basis, just need to be seen how they will perform in this year's IPL.
Mumbai Indians didn't had good bowling unit last year and they suffered a lot due to that,so they have focused on strengthening bowling unit by trading in Jason Behrendoff, buying Jhye Richardson at base price with Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer in the ranks ,MI bowling unit looks threatening and can create damage to opposition batting units.

This will provide 5 times Champion Mumbai Indian's depth and variety in MI Pace department as they usually used two foreign fast bowler along with Jasprit Bumrah in Playing XI.
Weakness: Spin Bowling Unit and Injury Scare
Mumbai Indians spin department struggled a lot in last season of IPL. Ever since they lost Rahul Chahar in mega auction,MI failed to bring in a quality wrist spinner in their arsenal. Even though they had the service of Murgun Ashwin and Mayank Markande last year, they failed to leave any mark in IPL 2022.
When we look past Kumar Kartikeya and Hrithik Shokeen,MI Spin department is very weak and they can struggle when they play on dry pitches and they need experience to play on spin track of Cheepuk.
MI managed to bring in experienced World Cup Winner Piyush Chawal in Mini Auction 2023,his experience can boost the confidence of spin department and also MI scout team did their work and signed young leg spinner Nehal Wadhere from Punjab.
Injury scares:
Jasprit Bumrah is very important part of Mumbai Indians team,if he is fit then MI's half problem will be solved. MI fans are itching to see both Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer to play together. But both these players had been struggling from injuries since last 1-2 years,as both these players missed all important T20 World Cup played in Australia due to injury. But as the per the latest Report ( Cricbuzz) Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out the IPL 2023 due to back injury.
Jofra Archer has recovered from injury and played in SA20 recently and most likely he will be fit for MI in IPL 2023 and Jasprit Bumrah is also recovering, but he has been ruled out of BGT 2023 and ODI series against Australia, but he is likely to be fit by IPL 2023. Also as per the source,BCCI have asked MI team to manage Jasprit Bumrah workload during IPL 2023,which means he will miss few matches during the course of the tournament in order to keep him fit for WTC 2023 Final(will be played after IPL 2023) and World Cup 2023 to be played later in the year. Both players are coming from long Injury layoff and if they failed to maintain their fitness then it will be big blow for MI. Mumbai Indian don't have a quality Indian pacer as a backup for Jasprit Bumrah.
Chance to Prove: Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green
Ishan Kishan had very poor IPL 2022 as he was struggling to maintain good strike rate and he was heavily criticised by fans. This will be big chance for Ishan Kishan to prove himself as he can be long term opener for MI by scoring and winning matches for MI. Ishan Kishan had recently smashed ODI double century and that can boost his confidence and good IPL season can confirm his place in World Cup 2023 to played in India. But Ishan Kishan need to let go off all the pressure and play his natural game and that will be best chance for Ishan Kishan to propel in IPL 2023.
Cameron Green was bought for Whopping INR 17.5 Cr by MI, and that price tag can sometimes bring in huge pressure as we had seen in past with many players failed due to huge price tag in IPL. Cameron Green can also have additional pressure of filling in shoe of Kieron Pollard. But if he starts firing in all departments then it will be huge for both Mumbai Indians and his chance of making to all 3 format for Australia will be increased, as World Cup 2023 will be played later this year in India.
