The new National Education Policy 2020 is meant to provide an vision and frame work for both School and higher education across the country.

The Union Cabinet on 29th July 2020 Approved National Education Policy 2020 replacing 34 year old education policy framed in 1986. 

Some of the highlights of NEP 2020 are:

• A single regulator for higher education institutions.
• Multiple entry and exit option in degree courses.
• No MPhil Programme.
• Low stakes on Board exams
• Common entrance exams for universities.

5 Important Changes In Education Policy:

Schooling at the age of 3 years

As per New Education Policy 2020, expands the age groups from 6-14 which was mandatory to 6-18 years of schooling. The new system will have 3 year of Anganwadi (Pre Schooling) and 12 year of schooling.

The structure of 10+2 school curriculum is changes to 5+3+3+4 curricular structure for corresponding ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14 ,14-18 respectively.

Mother Tongue

In recent year there have been many debates over mother tongue language to be scrapped and national language to be used across country.

NEP's provide more focus on mother tongue language as medium to instruct in school along with ' three languages formula'. NEP also said no language should be imposed on anyone. The Children learn and grasps more quickly in their mother tongue.

No UGC, AICTE ,NCTE

Higher Education Commission of India ( HECI) will be set up as single roof for all the higher education except medical and legal education.

There will be same sets of norms for regulation, accreditation and academic standard for all Public and Private Education Institutions.

Science,Arts and Commerce

As per NEP 2020, In Curricular and Extra Curricular activities, there will not be any right  separation between Science and Arts.

Student can pick any subject as per their liking across streams in Vocational . Vocational education will begin in school from 6th grade till internship.

No Dropouts.

NEP 2020, there will be multiple entry and exit in Undergraduate degree(3-4 years). College will be manadate to give certificate after completing 1 year in discipline or field including vocational and professional area, diploma after 2 years and bachelor's degree after 3 years.
